We are starting some new units/projects!

In Social Studies:
The kids have been busy comparing and contrasting the geographical regions of the 13 Colonies (New England, Middle, and Southern).  They are now investigating what it was like to live in the 13 colonies.  Both classes have raised some intriguing questions that were not answered in our textbook.  Each student will identify 2-3 of their favorite questions.  They will then cross-reference a variety of resources to determine the answer.  This will lead to new questions with new answers.  Students will track their question and answer cycle over a period of 2-3 class periods and will then present their findings in small groups.  As always, all work will be done in class. If students do not use their class time wisely, however, they may be asked to finish their work at home. Presentations will be March 27 and 28.

In ELA:
This week we are starting a new unit on poetry and figurative language.  As the kids read poems, they will analyze the poet's word choice, form, point of view, purpose, and theme.  They will also identify figurative language used with each of the poems.  Test next Monday.

To keep increasing our understanding of Greek and Latin roots, students will get a new list of vocab stems (non, post, pre, semi, sub) and will test on Friday.

We are wrapping up our prep for our 3rd Book Club Meeting which will be held on Friday, March 16th.  The kids will have 30 minutes in class each day this week to read their page goal and complete their Book Club Journal (before, during, and after thinking).  Students have been reminded that if they do not finish their goal for that day, they should complete their reading/notes for homework.  The last Book Club Meeting will be Friday, March 23rd.
